Through Our Lens: Desert Getaway – Palm Springs

California deserts are some of our favorite photo shoot destinations. We’ve been to the desert a few times now, so we thought we’d share some of our most-loved finds. First up: Palm Springs. You can’t beat this super-retro, funky resort town for its hip, nostalgic vibe.

A study in pink, teal, orange, and anything vibrant, Palm Springs is a quirky-chic desert oasis that evokes the authentic Hollywood glamour of the ’50s and ’60s. You can see and feel the Rat Pack vibe everywhere, and the often kitcshy roadside art and architecture will keep you smiling.Travel Stories Palm Springs Image 02Where to stay: You can’t beat the Ace Hotel and Swim Club for its hip-heritage charm. The lobby is known for its desert-nautical rope installation, the ’50s diner for breakfast and lunch is a foodie’s delight, and it’s THE place for live entertainment every weekend. If your scene is less hip and happening and more old-school mid-century luxury, stay at the Horizon Hotel, just down the street (the French-press morning coffee is perfection).

Where to dine: There is one place that stands alone for us, and it’s the locals’ favorite too: Trio, on North Palm Canyon Drive. You’ll love the menu, the atmosphere, the quirky local artist installations, and of course, the cocktails (Palm Springs is known for its martinis, thank you Dean Martin!).Travel Stories Palm Springs Image 03What to do: Palm Springs isn’t just tanning by the pool and sipping martinis.  A day of vintage shopping is an absolute must. Try Déjà Vu Vintage or Mitchells. They’ll transport you straight into Doris Day’s closet for chic ’50s designer finds, along with one-of-a-kind showstoppers from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s.  Or, you could hit the links, because Palm Springs is known for its incredible golf courses, with Classic Club in Palm Desert being one of the best.

What to bring: Pack pretty light, because you’ll only need a few key pieces to take you through day and night in this sunny, casual chic town. Our pick this season is the Doree for the perfect retro day-to-night look. Guys, the Chamberlain will work beautifully with your brightly-colored chino shorts or crisp linen trousers.Travel Stories Palm Springs Image 04Next Stop: Day Trip Adventure to Joshua Tree National Park
