Through our Lens: Desert Getaway — Joshua Tree

No trip to the California desert would be complete without a day of sightseeing and adventure in the desert. Joshua Tree National Park is an easy hour-ish drive from Palm Springs, and a true wonder with lots of cultural history. You won’t find a more surreal, otherworldy landscape anywhere. The trees for which the park is named are incredible enough, but there’s so much more to see and experience.Travel Stories Joshua Tree Image 02For this desert excursion, our pick is the Saida sport sandal, and for the guys, the Manny will get you anywhere you want to go. Prepare for a bit of casual hiking and grab your sunglasses, hats, sunscreen and lots of water. Be sure to get on the road early, because sunrise at Joshua Tree is simply magical, and the morning light is not to be missed.Travel Stories Joshua Tree Image 03Joshua Tree is really two deserts: The Mojave Desert meets the Colorado Desert in the park, and each zone has its own austere beauty and rugged charm. The high desert of the western section of the park is where you’ll find the unique joshua trees, and fields of massive organically-shaped boulders and rock formations. The eastern section of the park is just as amazing, with palm trees in oases scattered throughout. You really can’t go wrong anywhere at Joshua Tree, pick a direction and go. A one-of-a-kind natural wonder awaits.Travel Stories Joshua Tree Image 04Once you’ve been to Joshua Tree, you’ll probably find yourself coming back time and time again. There’s something transcendant about these remote, out of way places. When the sun is just right, and the wind is gently stirring, that moment of pure contentment is all yours.Travel Stories Joshua Tree Image 05
